Trip to Ras al-Khaimah

A trip to Ras al-Khaimah with my parents on 2 Jan 2009

Ras al-Khaimah is a rich and rugged land,
with beautiful and dramatic mountains,
red sandy deserts and lush green plains
indented by a series of creeks and lagoons.

It has a rich heritage which manifests
in numerous historical sites, forts
and abandoned villages. Recent excavations
reveal a history dating back to 5'000 BC.

Ras Al Khaimah, a haven of peace where age-old
traditions and modern life co-exist in harmony.

National Museum

The National Museum of Ras al-Khaimah looks after all aspects of Ras al-Khaimah's rich heritage. The Collections consist of archaeological material mostly from excavations conducted over the last 20 years; ethnographic material depicting the traditional way of Ras al-Khaimah's people and natural history specimens such as shells, fossils and rocks.

30 years of excavations have produced
an amazing range of finds from
the earliest settlers of the
5th millennium BC to the late islamic period.


The Ethnography Collection

The traditional way of Life can be best
understood by learning abouts its
architecture, pearl diving , date agriculture,
farming and fishing displayed in the galleries
