Off-road: Hatta-Munay-Khor Kalba

Date: 20 Sept 2009

A day trip on the 1st day of Eid Al Fitr
The route starts at the Hatta Fort Hotel Roundabout
after 1k turn north onto the single carriageway
that cuts throught the rugged mountains

Qala'a Village
Village of Qala'a overlooking the wadi
Wadi Hulw is picturesque, with ruins of old settlements,
graves, terrace farms and the occasional pool in the wet season.
However, it's also become much drier in recent years
and a numbers of shrubs and trees int he wadi are dying.

Leaves the wadi, back to the gravel road
we continue our journey to Awhala/Ohala

Wadi Al Hulw Tunnel
Awhala/Ohala Fort
Situated in the southestern corner of the Emirate of Fujairah
Build on the top of an Iron Age defensive structure dated back to ca:800BC

After visiting the fort, we follow the sign to Fujairah
and the road join the main coastal road to Khor Kalba

Khor Kalba Nature Reserve
located along the shores of the Gulf of Oman in the UAE
just before the border with Oman. More than 20
endangered bird species have been spotted there.
Flat, smooth beaches
Sunset ...
