Tsunami Memorials
The road to Galle passes Tsunami Memorials erected in remembrance of the terrible disaster of 2004. The monument between Ambalangoda and Hikkaduwa is dedicated to the 1,600 lives which were lost here when the Colombo to Galle train was hit by the wave.
A memorial has been erected - by Japan - in honour of the 40,000 dead
