Part2 Fjord of Musadam
Part3 Explorer Khasab
Date: 28 Mar 2009
Dominating the coast and surrounded by towering mountains, is the Khasab fort. A picturesque stronghold situated on the inner cove of Khasab Bay in Wilayat Khasab–Musandam, the Khasab Fort was built in the 17th century by Portuguese seeking dominion over regional maritime trade.
Within its low crenulated walls, the fort contains a large central tower which is anticipated to pre-date the fort itself. During this period the Portuguese depended on Khasab for the supply of fresh water, fish and dates. When the demand increased they made this fort exclusively for defence purposes. Now, as a Museum, it displays many Omani handicrafts.
